Identify a clinical problem or topic that you wish to focus on

Safety Focused/Clinical Based Project
While at your first clinical rotation, you will identify a clinical problem or topic that you wish to focus on (see examples below). During this rotation you will utilize the clinical health care environment to explore and discuss this topic in the clinical setting.
During this rotation, you will collaborate with your clinical instructor and the facility staff regarding the facility or unit’s policies, procedures, and current practice guidelines on this topic.  What you are looking for is “why we do things this way”, “what might be a better way to do this” and the research that supports the policy or procedure. (Evidenced Based Practice).
You will synthesize the evidence based on your research findings and present the most current information about your topic both in a written paper, and in a post conference presentation in clinical. In your paper and presentation, you should discuss how the policy/procedure and associated research impact the safety and quality of care delivered to your patient.
It will be critical for you to be thinking about this assignment at the beginning of your clinical rotation so that you can choose a topic to focus on and start your research.
Assignment requirements:
You will individually prepare and write a 2-4 page, not including title and reference page, APA formatted evidence-based practice paper emphasizing best practices within your chosen topic.
Using your paper, you will create a presentation of your research findings and present them to your clinical instructor and peers during post conference. Some examples of past presentations have been a short power point presentation, teaching demonstration with handouts, poster boards and student made video clips. Have fun with it and be creative!
The paper must include a minimum of 2 nursing journal articles written within the past 5-7 years.
